The body is the foundational layer of experience in meditation. An important part of practice is the cultivation of embodiment - a greater sense of intimacy and comfort with one's body, in direct experience (not just in terms of how we think about the body).
When we talk about "the body" in meditation, we're talking about an experience - not our idea of the body, not our opinions, views and knowledge about the body. Our perception of the body arises as a dynamic, ever changing field of sensations. Our direct experience of the body is not "body-shaped". As practice deepens, we can become aware of this, and drop deeper into a sense of mystery and space that can start to pervade our sense of the body, more and more.
